Ramadhan Series : Juz 8
Juz 8 continues Surah Al-An’am (6:111-165) and begins Surah Al-A’raf (7:1-87). This Juz emphasizes gratitude, patience, healthy choices, and avoiding harmful behaviors—all of which contribute to holistic well-being.
1. Practicing Gratitude for a Healthy Mindset
"If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in
favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe." (Ibrahim
14:7)
Gratitude is a powerful tool for mental and emotional well-being. Islam encourages us to recognize and appreciate our blessings, which can lead to a more positive and fulfilling life.
Health Insight: Research shows that practicing
gratitude reduces stress, improves sleep, and enhances overall happiness.
Keeping a gratitude journal or reflecting on blessings daily can boost mental
well-being.
2. Avoiding Harmful Addictions and Unhealthy Habits
"Say, ‘Come, I will recite what your Lord has
prohibited to you…’ And do not approach immoralities – what is apparent of them
and what is concealed." (Al-An’am 6:151)
Islam teaches self-restraint and warns against harmful
behaviors like addiction, excessive indulgence, and immoral actions. Such
habits affect physical health and spiritual purity.
Health Insight:
Avoiding harmful substances like smoking, alcohol, and processed junk food
helps prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease and obesity.
3. The Role of Patience in Health and Faith
"And be patient. Indeed, Allah does not allow to be
lost the reward of those who do good." (Hud 11:115)
Life comes with challenges, but patience (saber) helps overcome difficulties without compromising mental peace. Patience is also essential for forming healthy eating habits, exercise routines, and stress management strategies.
Health Insight: Studies show that patience and stress
management techniques, such as deep breathing and mindfulness, improve
cardiovascular health and mental stability.
4. The Dangers of Excess and Overindulgence
"And do not waste [resources] extravagantly. Indeed,
the wasteful are brothers of the devils." (Al-Isra 17:26-27)
Islam encourages moderation in spending, eating, and
lifestyle habits. Overindulgence in food, wealth, or time leads to negative
consequences for both body and soul.
Health Insight: Overeating can lead to weight gain, metabolic disorders, and digestive issues. Eating mindfully and avoiding wastefulness promote long-term health.
5. The Health Benefits of Seeking Forgiveness
"And ask forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him.
Indeed, my Lord is Merciful and Affectionate." (Hud 11:90)
Seeking forgiveness (istighfar) not only purifies the soul
but also relieves stress and anxiety. A guilt-free heart and mind promote emotional
and spiritual well-being.
Health Insight: Studies show that letting go of guilt
and past mistakes can significantly reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, and
enhance sleep quality.
